About the artist.
I am a Glasgow-based realist painter, working in both traditional and digital media. Although trained as a biologist, I returned to painting in 2011 following a ten year gap. Since then, I have been lucky enough to have exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal Glasgow Institute. I have also shown work at the Leiper Fine Art Gallery in Glasgow and was selected for a summer scholarship at the Florence Academy of Art in 2014, and was short-listed for the Bulldog Bursary in 2012.
My work depends heavily on observation from nature, but it's important to me that my paintings are not mechanical copies of the commonplace appearances of my subject matter. I try to make my pieces express something of my emotional and psychological response to my subjects, that is - to paint what it feels like to see them, rather than simply what they look like.
